Casa Luz is a magical hilltop oasis, nestled amidst 3 hectares (7+ acres) of private rolling hills. The open-air concept design allows for 180-degree unobstructed ocean views, from sunrise to sunset, as well as views of the surrounding jungle valley. Unique to the Nosara area, Casa Luz offers an extraordinary sense of tranquility and privacy.

The layout includes a massive living/dining area with wraparound outdoor patios and a saltwater infinity pool, a master bedroom, a bath with outdoor shower, a large storage/wardrobe area, and a bonus sleeping loft. The interior design—including caña brava ceilings and wide-plank wood floors—is at once minimalist and inviting.

Right outside the property, depending on the time of year, you are likely to find papayas and bananas; hibiscus and ginger; howler monkeys, owl butterflies, and of course many types of birds (there are over 270 native bird species!).

The Santa Marta neighborhood is in a tucked-away local area, conveniently situated between Playa Guiones and Ostional, and just a 10-minute drive to Playa Pelada as well. It is also a stone’s throw from Nosara town, where you can find amenities like the gas station, bank, and post office. Once on the property itself, however, you will feel faraway from it all. The only sounds you hear will be those of nature: The ocean, the howlers, seasonal rainfall, and birdsong.

Casa Luz is situated within the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge (RNVSO) buffer zone—established in 1984 to protect several rare marine plants and animals, including three species of sea turtles.

Coexisting with this intense biodiversity means the scenery can be both breathtaking and unpredictable. Stays are best-suited for those with a deep respect for nature and an adventurous spirit.

  • The terrain is at once private and rugged—shops are close by but not easily walkable; a 4x4 or ATV is highly recommended

  • Outages are more common here than in the US, Canada, or Europe (though they are usually very short)—we have a backup internet battery and of course emergency supplies, but the occasional outages could inconvenience some guests

  • Jungle life can be tough on material goods (did someone say “biodegradable”?)—our furnishings are therefore rustic and minimalist, and we encourage an “essentialist” approach to shopping and packing for your stay

  • Pollution—including toxic chemicals, as well as light and noise pollution in evening hours—is damaging to the local ecology and highly discouraged

  • Spiders, scorpions, snakes, frogs, and many types of insects share the land, and crocodiles share the rivers—we recommend avoiding the rivers completely, and staying generally mindful of the natural world

  • The swimming pool, parts of the terrace, and interior floating stairway have no railings or gates; the property is not appropriate for very young children
